Brendan Duprey is the Founding Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Sustainable Development Research and an Associate Professor of Sustainability at Narxoz University in Almaty, Kazakhstan. For more than a decade, he has worked internationally on sustainability programs and solution-oriented research. Throughout his career, he has been recognized as a leader in sustainability, integrating its diverse dimensions to develop practical solutions by bringing together and leading multidisciplinary teams across different sectors.

One of his most significant achievements was leading the five-year framework programme “Education for Sustainable Development in the Western Balkans: Education for a Sustainable Future” (2012–2017). Under his leadership, the programme played a key role in integrating the principles and concepts of sustainable development into broader educational reforms implemented in Serbia, Montenegro, and Kosovo as part of the global transition to outcomes-based education. The programme was recognized as a best practice in the UNECE evaluation report “Ten Years of the UNECE Strategy for Education for Sustainable Development (2005–2015)”.

He has presented his work at major international forums, including the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development held in Nagoya, Japan (2014). He also delivered a TEDx talk, where he shared his perspective on how educational reform can serve as a catalyst for sustainable development. Brendan holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences and Policy from Central European University. His research interests include European Union integration, policy implementation, public policy, multilevel governance, education reform through Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), and the management of transformational change.
